Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll:

A middle-aged rock 'n roller who desperately wanted to be rich and famous but so far, he's 0 for 2.

Creator: Denis Leary
Stars: Denis Leary, John Corbett, Elizabeth Gillies

Movie Reviews:

Denis Leary plays Johnny Rock - a manipulative, egomaniacal, Washed-up, womanizing, drug-addict rock legend who is loathed by other musicians and particularly his former band-mates. He continually attempts to revive his career and vents about the excesses of the music industry that are holding him back. Formerly the front-man of the Heathens - a much loved late 1980s/early 1990s band Johnny has gradually ended up further back in his career than where he started as the series begins. His ultimate low-point comes when he puts the moves on Gigi (Elizabeth Gillies) a woman young enough to be his daughter who actually turns out to be his daughter. The hits keep on coming as she coerces him into re-forming the Heathens to serve as her own vehicle to pop stardom. Johnny is still on board to write songs with Flash (John Corbett) the former band-mate who despises him. But Gigi, who turns out to be ten times the singer her father ever was has displaced him as Heathens lead vocalist.

Johnny does his level best to be a father to his long-lost daughter whilst scheming to feed his substance abuse and to regain the momentum his career once had. Diplomacy remains far from his strong suit and as self-appointed arbiter/guardian of rock 'n' roll's legacy he pulls no punches (Like Leary's stand-up act). A music historian with impeccable accuracy for someone whose mind has been blasted on booze and hard drugs for decades, his scathing criticisms and prescient observations strike with the accuracy of a stealth bomber. The show itself stages epic send-ups of rock star excess right down to the minutiae of the song-writing process which are absolutely side-splitting.

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is nothing less than a brilliant satire of the music industry and I speak as a music critic (Uber Rock Magazine in Britain). The opportunities for mining a raunchier/grittier kind of humour that prime-time network TV won't touch make it a perfect sitcom for cable TV. Denis Leary hasn't lost any of his bite as a writer and this show is a perfect outlet.

Storyline:

John Ellison, a disillusioned suburban ER doctor, finds his existence transformed when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a young boy's life and killing one of his attackers. When he learns the boy is still marked for death, he finds himself compelled to save him at any cost and discovers that his life and his outlook on medicine may never be the same.

Reviews:

The show started in a mysteriously catchy intriguing way a moment and its 10 hours ago flashback isn't new but here it felt really fresh, where in the psychic office another flashbacks appear like a web with the park shooting with the memories of his daughter .. just to make you understand well what's really the story and make you more and more engaged in the plot. The story itself is not strictly into medical shows and all as i expected it to be which would've made it a regular copy of "grey's anatomy" or "the night shift" but this one got it's own personality by the concept of saving someone not just medically but like really saving him ;) And it never stops surprising you with new tangled events where you'd expect things are just simple for such show. After "Burn Notice" Matt Nix did a good job on this script the show looked so much precise and on point you just want to know what's gonna happen next and how he got himself involved in this mess where things escalated quickly from a shooting in a park to a gang war to attempt murder in the 3rd episode ;) ....

As for the cast,, well at first i didn't really feel that Jason O'Mara was a good choice for the lead ,, i don't know, his face felt a bit rigid and inflexible but as the scenes rolled his expressions evolved and got more involved on the show. The nurse Gretchen "Jessica Szohr" is Daaaaamn hot with her tattoos also Eric Edelstein character as drug addict was spot on. Overall, USA network made a bold yet a great choice picking this show on the screen ,, and from three episodes so far i really have a good feeling about this one ,, and i think it'll make a fine success.

Reviews:

SUITS is smart, sassy, clever, sophisticated, timely and immensely entertaining! The new series debuted with a full 60 minute story that establishes the characters very solidly, opens pathways for many story lines, and boasts an exceptional cast of fine actors. Here is hoping it makes it as an ongoing series, especially since it is not yet another crime drama! Not that Criminal Mains, The Mentalist, Without A Trace will lose their place among the best show on television, but with all the spinoffs on the crime shows, the available choices have been dwindling lately.

SUITS is a lawyer show. Set in New York (captured, by the way, in beautiful cinematic vistas) it focuses on a very successful law firm, managed by Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) who balances the talents of her two top lawyers, the smarmy Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) who is a control freak, and the very brilliant but egotistical Harvey Spector (Gabriel Macht). There is a particularly appealing and very bright secretary Donna (Sarah Rafferty) and a beautiful paralegal Rachel (Meghan Markel) and last but certainly not least by any means there is Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) - a young lad who is extremely bright, has a photographic memory, dropped out of college because he took tests for fellow students and got caught, fell into marketing drugs by default for need of money so that he could pursue his dream of being a lawyer, and falls quite by accident into the role of being selected as associate to the brilliant but self absorbed Harvey Spector. This is the team of characters who are destined to provide fascinating substories as they interact.

The dialogue (Aaron Korsh and Sean Jablonski) is clever, bright, snappy, unclichéd, witty, and helps define the complexities of the characters. The pacing is exceptional (directors Kevin Bray and John Scott) and the series has the appearance of a high-end movie - excellent cinematography, expansive development of story in well-selected locations - but most of all this is a cast that is worthy of attention every moment they are on camera. It will be interesting to watch how Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht grow into our psyches: both are exceptionally fine and provide a spectrum of the lawyer personality we haven't seen on a series before. This should be a major hit!

Movie Reviews:

This special and the ongoing shows that followed have done an excellent job detailing WW2 battles. I especially enjoy the ones about the Pacific campaign as those are so often lumped together & not examined one by one. Via the old aerial photographs, one gets a better sense of the lay of the land in these battles which is sometimes hard to visualize when simply reading about them. Includes achieve footage, interviews with those who were there & historians and some fairly good recreation footage (at least they get uniforms & weapons right). Plus they don't do such long recaps when returning from commercial, a big pet peeve of mine with the History Channel.

Mistresses:

Their mutual best friend, April (Rochelle Aytes), a recent widow and mother of one, is rebuilding her life after tragedy and learning to move forward - with the support and guidance of her closest girlfriends. Movie Reviews:

Listen, I get it. It makes women seem naive, vulnerable, blah, blah, blah. THAT'S WHAT I ENJOY WATCHING. I don't want to come home from a 12-hour shift to watch something based in reality. I want something fluffy and ridiculous. Perhaps there are others that disagree with me. That's fine. But I do believe that you all should take this show for what it is. It's a one-hour escape from reality. And yes, the plot is silly and the acting is a bit forced. But is there really a need to attack it for lacking a feminist viewpoint? I see the real world every day. I don't need to see it when I kick back with a miller light and a puzzle. I don't get all the reviews that this is putting women back "30 years" and is "demoralizing." It's a F*CKING ABC soap opera. Leave your far-left feminist ideology at the door and have some fun.

Graceland:

A rookie FBI agent is sent to a house for undercover agents in Southern California, where he is trained by a former legend FBI agent.

Creator: Jeff Eastin
Stars: Daniel Sunjata, Aaron Tveit, Vanessa Ferlito

Storyline:

"Graceland" is a place full of secrets, and bad, good, and blurred moments too. The only idyllic thing is its outside look, but the lives of its residents are nothing like it. The lies which are in the base of their undercover work, are formed a web of lies that pervades everything. Coming of a new graduating at the top of his class, FBI rookie, Mike Warren (Aaron Tveit), could make the life of a legendary FBI agent Paul Briggs (Daniel Sunjata) and the others, more complicated or it could reveal the truth. It is based upon actual events.

Movie Reviews:

I've read somewhere about this TV show and I just couldn't wait to see the pilot episode. All I can say after watching this episode could've been said in these three words: intriguing, exciting and unpretentious! But, I'm not going to stop only with that. This is a story about seemingly ordinary people and their work: FBI agents who enforce the law by arresting the people who break the law, as they've been taught in school. Hence, this job is much more complicated by the criminal mind learned to hide, to connect with all parts of society, only to avoid justice. Because of that, the ordinary people of the law have to work undercover, to look like criminals, to talk like them, to lie and do everything to arrest them. All that lying and erasing themselves could be very dangerous and who knows where could lead. I can't wait another episode, to see all the good and the bad in these characters that will come up!

Under the Dome:

An invisible and mysterious force field descends upon a small fictional town in the United States, trapping residents inside, cut off from the rest of civilization. The trapped townsfolk must discover the secrets and purpose of the "dome" and its origins, while coming to learn more than they ever knew about each other.

Creator: Brian K. Vaughan
Stars: Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Alexander Koch

Storyline:

An invisible and mysterious force field descends upon a small fictional town in the United States, trapping residents inside, cut off from the rest of civilization. The trapped townsfolk must discover the secrets and purpose of the "dome" and its origins, while coming to learn more than they ever knew about each other.

Movie Reviews:

What could have been an intriguing story has been ruined by a terrible script and even more terrible acting, not to mention a ridiculously over-the-top attempt at political correctness. Chester's Mill, a beautiful town in the middle of nowhere with cute little houses and perfectly manicured lawns, is probably also the most diverse place in the entire world. This sparsely populated village that fits neatly under an invisible dome has Caucasians, African Americans, Asians, Latinos, Native Americans, and mixed race lesbian couples! The only group that seems to be missing is single Sri Lankan gay men. Everyone seems to co-exist just fine, even though it's not clear if anyone in the town actually has a job, except for Beth Broderick, the local diner waitress who pours coffee all day, Natalie Martinez, the most incompetent cop ever to make it onto the force, and the dreadful Rachelle Lefevre as the local hard-as-nails journalist who spends most of her time skulking around through open fields and taking pictures of air. No wonder she lost her big city newspaper job and ended up under this plexiglass shield.

Once that darned dome comes down, Chester's Mill becomes a modern day Peyton Place and everyone's deep, dark secrets begin to surface. The problem here, though, is that none of the characters is compelling or sympathetic. We just wanna find out what's up with that dome, but instead, we're forced to watch these poorly conceptualized folks interact with each other with eye-rolling dialogue like, "So they say you're passin' through town. What are you runnin' from?" Every now and then, someone mentions they're worried the dome may collapse onto Chester's Mill. Frankly, my fingers are crossed that's exactly what will happen. No town this boring should be allowed to stay on the map.

Hannibal:

Storyline:

The continuing saga of Hannibal Lecter, the murdering cannibal. He is presently in Italy and works as a curator at a museum. But she gets a reprieve because Mason Verger, one of Lecter's victims who is looking to get back at Lecter for what Lecter did to him, wants to use Starling to lure him out. But a corrupt policeman who wants to get the reward that Verger placed on him, tells Verger where he is. But they fail to get him. Later Verger decides to frame Starling which makes Lecter return to the States. And the race to get Lecter begins.

Movie Reviews:

Anthony Hopkins gave an impeccable performance. However, the material he was given to work with was not as good as Silence of the Lambs. In fairness, perhaps there was no way it could be. In SOTL, he was somehow more foreboding, more of a sort of superhuman monster; in Hannibal, he's more accessible, a guy you meet on the street. Maybe it was impossible to maintain the mystery of Lecter that we saw in SOTL because of the risk of doing a rehash. I'd give the overall Dr Lecter character a 9 of 10 in this film, vs. a 10 of 10 in the last one. Not quite as good, but still very good. Starling's character, on the other hand, fell flat in this film. In SOTL, Foster perfectly portrayed Starling's flat surface with a turbulent depth; in Hannibal, there was nothing under her surface. Foster's Clarice evoked feelings of sympathetic grief, Moore's Clarice evoked nothing. I do not necessarily blame Moore, this could be due to writing and/or directing. Obviously, though SOTL focused mainly on Starling's character, Hannibal focuses on, well, Hannibal. Still, that's no excuse for what was done to Starling. Her character gets a 3 of 10. The story was much weaker in Hannibal than in SOTL. It almost seemed like an excuse to present us with the characters, rather than a story in and of itself. Still, it had no other major flaws, so it gets a 6 of 10.

Now, there's another category I'll call the shock factor. It's different than ordinary gore, it's... creative gore. The sick, disgusting depravity we expect to see and like to see in this type of film. I can't go into detail without spoiling it, but I'll have to say it goes even beyond what I expected. Do not watch this film if you are squeamish or dislike gore. There isn't a lot of gore in the film, but what there was, was... concentrated. Shock Factor, 10 of 10. Overall I give the film an 8 of 10. Very well done with a few weaknesses, well worth watching.

 Dominion (2014)

Follows the perilous journey of a rebellious young soldier who discovers he's the unlikely savior of humanity.

Creator: Vaun Wilmott

Stars: Roxanne McKee, Tom Wisdom, Anthony Head

Storyline:

Follows the perilous journey of a rebellious young soldier who discovers he's the unlikely savior of humanity.

Details:

Official Sites: Official Site
Country: USA
Language: English
Release Date: 19 June 2014 (USA)
Also Known As: Bukott angyalok
Filming Locations: Cape Town, South Africa

Movie Reviews:

Dominion seems to be the successor to the 2010 film "Legion".  For those that don't remember it the plot is as follows, God abandons the Angels and they decide its mankind's fault, and thus the apocalypse is born. One angel alone amongst his brethren sides with humanity, and comes to a remote diner to protect one expecting mother whose child is prophesized to be mankind's only hope of survival. Dominion is set a significant while after the invasion, where by all accounts the demonic (angelic) invasion wiped out all but a few walled off highly defensible cities holding the last of human kind (the one we see bares a strong resemblance to Fallout's New Vegas), and then became somewhat dormant. The show has believable sets and effects, some interesting stylistic choices on armor and swords and city architecture. The plot isn't incredibly unique, but its not derivative enough that you will know the seasons plot after one episode. Although you likely will guess whats happening throughout the episode 30 seconds before it does happen, nothing is all that surprising.  Decent fight scenes, acting that's up to par, multiple sources of adversity from the Angelic threat to your own people, with one particularly self deluded villain that you will instantly not like. They highlight some social issues like caste systems and economic disparities, which might become important to the story later down the road.

Everything about the pilot is promising, if you're into fantasy entertainment this probably will excite you. Word of caution, only the pilot is released, and its from the Syfy network which doesn't bring its A game often (ever?). The only recently decent show from Syfy was Helix, which started out equally powerfully with no overt mistakes and a promising premise, but the more episodes of it you saw the more obvious it was that the possibilities you imagined in response to all the mysteries the show introduced were vastly superior to the illogical garbled mess the story turned into by the end of the season. I enjoyed the pilot, but if you're short on time wait for a while to see if the show maintains its quality.

Slow West (2015)

A young Scottish man travels across America in pursuit of the woman he loves, attracting the attention of an outlaw who is willing to serve as a guide.

Director: John Maclean
Writer: John Maclean
Stars: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Michael Fassbender, Ben Mendelsohn

Storyline

'Slow West' follows a 16-year-old boy on a journey across 19th Century frontier America in search of the woman he loves, while accompanied by mysterious traveler Silas.

Movie Reviews:

"Slow West" 2015 is surprisingly very well made western. The presentation is not a typical western, western is more like a setting. There are action, brutal shootouts, some genuine moment, smart and involving script, good acting by all involved. There are some truly genuine scenes in this movie, like the one with fallen three and man under him - hilarious.

Overall, "Slow West" isn't a typical western. The characters are simple yet effective, as well as the story. This is a small film, made on seemingly small budget, but don't miss this movie, it's a rare little gem, far better that you average shoot them up type of western.

Movie Reviews:

First off the leads are just terrible. Worst picks possible. Plain as day and THE worst actors. No wonder wring leads were chosen. Look at the sorry excuse for "producers" chosen, the author became an egotistical sellout and director and screenwriter don't know what they are doing. Luke Grimes as Elliott & Rita Ora as Mia were also horribly miscast. The two "leads" acting are so atrocious it turned this into a comedy. They have no sex appeal and zero chemistry. It's like seeing two dry pieces of wood put together and forced to be romantic. Dornan's acting and delivery of lines is so horrid it makes me cringe. Dakota's attempts at trying to be sexy and vulnerable fall way flat. This needed to be put into better hands. People who could have taken a poorly written book and actually made something better out if it. Even though book is just corny erotic Twilight fan fiction, i mean, the "author" did not even bother to hide it. Each character is a clear and direct rip off if every Twilight character. Terrible in every way. The soundtrack is only good thing about this and you don't even have to like books or crap film to love it. I recommend buy the soundtrack and don't waste your money on this waste of film. The only ones who will watch and only ones who will give thumbs down are psycho cult fans. Ones who still live in parent's basements. And would not know good literature or a good love story if it were in their face. Books are crap and world don't need sequels. One turd is enough.

Wild Horses (2015)

A detective opens up a fifteen-year-old missing persons case and begins to suspect that the boy it belongs to was murdered - and that a local rancher was involved.

Director: Robert Duvall
Writers: Robert Duvall, Michael Shell (story)
Stars: Robert Duvall, James Franco, Josh Hartnett

Movie Reviews:

"Don't ever forget the obvious. Those clues will lead you to where you need to be." Scott Briggs (Duvall) is a rancher who comes home and finds something he doesn't like. His emotions get the better of him and something terrible happens. 15 years later an investigator shows up and begins to ask questions about his past. Now Scott is forced to try and hide the truth from everyone while trying to help his family. First and foremost this is a good movie. That said Duvall is starting to fall into the legend trap. By that I mean he is really doing a characteture of himself in every movie lately. He is still great but the person he plays in Night in Old Mexico and this one is pretty much the same person. That is not a bad thing, but it also takes away from the personalization of the movie. Also much like Night in Old Mexico this is not a western even though the cover seems like it is. All that said, the movie is very good and if you liked Night in Old Mexico you will like this as well. Overall, an enjoyable movie to watch, but Duvall really seems to be phoning in every one of his performances lately. I give this a B.

Movie Reviews:

The movie was action packed and I love when the good guy always win. The character don't talk much but you can only pull that off if you are a good actor. The young actress I hear she is 17 did an amazing job to play that part.Denzel no words you still got the box office power. My husband ex marine he would not stop hollering when one scene came up he gets a kick out of that stuff. Never seen the Equalizer series at all so my opinion is from the movie only. Sequel is wide open lets have more next year. Hope to see more. Love It. Hope the DVD be out for a Christmas Present for the husband I will be buying it. All I can say is go see this movie because it is very good don't listen to the haters.

Home Sweet Hell (2015)

Don Champagne seems to have it all but when his wife, Mona, learns of Don's affair with a pretty new salesgirl, Mona will stop at nothing to maintain their storybook life.

Director: Anthony Burns
Writers: Carlo Allen, Ted Elrick,
Stars: Katherine Heigl, Patrick Wilson, Madison Wolfe

Movie Reviews:

Loved the story since i'v seen the trailer but the movie started just a little bit slow like they've needed 35 minutes to build up to the main plot of a 80 minutes movie !! well after that it peaked to the level i expected, As i thought they would give a little unpredictable surprise to make it look different than what they revealed in the trailer, Well there were a bunch of them,,The last 20 minutes had A Boom Boom. ;)

So the the idea is fresh, new for me, the storyline gets really good after the first half of the movie .. and it surprisingly got thrilling in a way , i gotta be honest thou the Dark Comedy side seemed to be overpowered by the Drama one in some minutes,, Apart from the dorky innocent tense comic acting (which i sorta liked) by "Patrick Wilson" i didn't see any :P but again that was the whole idea and it worked out nicely after the middle of the movie ... maybe it was just me because i really wanted to watch a pure comedy movie ;)

The cast is nice ,, i love "Katherine Heigl" i mean she's so HOT and yeah talented too ;D, her role here didn't give her more of her funny side but she engaged well in the character ... "Patrick Wilson" also did a good job, the appearance of "James Belushi" was also cool. Overall the movie worked out just fine,, and it was enjoyable on an bit above average.

American Poltergeist (2015)

A group of friends move into a vacation home with a sinister past in Fall River, Massachusetts. Suspicious of the home's owner, Taryn feels a strong connection to the house and finds.

Director: Mike Rutkowski
Writers: Nicole Holland, Mike Rutkowski
Stars: Simona Fusco, Donna Spangler, Ashley Green

Movie Reviews:

I was given an advanced copy of this movie to review after an unedited version was pirated and posted on the internet. This unedited version was then illegally watched by the previous reviewer here on IMDb, as well as the two who wrote nasty things about this movie on the message board. Basing a movie on unedited clips is unfair and adds insult to injury after having pirated such footage.

The version of the movie I watched was the full edited soon to be released "legal" version. My overall opinion is that this movie scores an 8 in the independent horror genre. The story was fresh and the acting was above average for a low budget fun movie. Great movie for the Summer and leading up to Halloween. Especially for teens as we meet a group of college kids who decide to rent rooms in a large mansion hosted by a spooky landlord. Weird sounds and a scary ghost start to emerge as the group disappears one by one. The ending takes an unusual twist possibly leading to a sequel?

Great first time appearance for many of the performers, and producers. Nicole Holland wrote the movie as well as plays the ghost of Lizzie Borden. Not bad for her first time out. Hoping to see more from this newest talent from the indie market.

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (2015)

When Lou finds himself in trouble, Nick and Jacob fire up the hot tub time machine in an attempt to get back to the past. But they inadvertently land in the future with Adam Jr. Now they have to alter the future in order to save the past - which is really the present.

Director: Steve Pink
Writers: Josh Heald, Josh Heald (characters)
Stars: Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke

Movie Reviews:

After watching this movie, it only confirms what I already believe, and thats critics don't know what the f*ck there talking about most of the time. I was a bit put off by all the bad reviews, but I am glad I gave it a watch because this was frickin hilarious! Sure the plot doesn't make sense or it doesn't have John Cusack, but who gives a f*ck! you get more of Craig Robinson, Rob Courddry and Clark Duke, who let's be honest provided most of the laughs from the original. Sure it's more crude and it may not appeal to all those artsy fartsy critics who are whining about the movie not being PC, but if you want a good stoner movie to watch with the guys and enjoy something without taking it too seriously, watch it! I think it is on par with the first and has been unfairly judged. Compared to most comedy sequels, that always do the same thing as the first (hangover sequels), at least this went in a completely over the top direction that was more like a bunch of comedy skits than an actual movie. Overall, I thought it was hilarious and a definite guilty pleasure. Sure it won't appeal to everyone, and its not supposed too. Obviously for a movie like this you don't expect much just a lot of laughs and this is definitely a goofy stoner comedy best enjoyed under the influence.

Movie Reviews:

Most Blumhosue produced films are utter trash(Jessabelle, The Purge, etc.) and I'm a big horror fan so this movie caught my eye. And I wasn't disappointed at all. Going in with an open mind, what I really liked about the film was that it didn't move into demonic territory to provide cheap scares. Sure, some pop up scares were cliché, but they didn't have to use demons to make the film creepy. Olivia Wilde is fantastic in her role, as is Evan Peters. The film also has a solid story, and borrows elements from Pet Semetary, The Shining, and Lucy(yes it makes sense). Without losing the plot in itself like recents like Project Almanac, it sticks to a meaningful script, and provides fun, campy scares. It wasn't golden, nor is it a new classic, but it's a brisk fun way to lose yourself in the macabre. It's also one of the better recent horror films. Defiantly recommend this, and I hope my review has helped!

Movie Reviews:

There have been too many versions of the movie Cinderella and this modern version was so disappointing indeed. It is made for kids only and not for adults. The movie was so boring.

Walt Disney Pictures did not offer anything new in this dull and outdated sequel. The remake was much worse than copy and paste.A lot of imitation of Cinderella movies and nothing original.

Walt Disney stole all the ideas and movie plot from Orlando Corradi. See Orlando Corradi's Cinderella Movie and See The Shocking Evidence How Disney is clever in Rip Off & Theft.

Focus (2015)

In the midst of veteran con man Nicky's latest scheme, a woman from his past - now an accomplished femme fatale - shows up and throws his plans for a loop.

Directors: Glenn Ficarra, John Requa
Writers: Glenn Ficarra, John Requa
Stars: Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Rodrigo Santoro

Movie Reviews:

You know a movie is bad when it doesn't even follow it's tagline.  Unfortunately, this is the case in Focus, a disjointed, needlessly convoluted misfire from directors Glenn Ficarra and John Request and a talented cast that includes Margot Robbie and Will Smith.

Focus starts relatively well, displaying many cool scenes of pickpocketing as Smith tries to lure Robbie into the business. However, soon all of this turns out to be a distraction of the real plot, that is the big time con, which is an absolute letdown. There is plenty of filler in the middle, particularly a clever but ultimately pointless 20 minute scene at an American football match. While it is impressive to watch, it doesn't contribute anything to the plot.

Soon, they move on to the next big con which is completely unrelated to the last (that shows how useless the start was) full of ever more filler, more deception, more forced humour and more lame twists. The third act is a disaster with the plot double or should I say, triple crossing itself like a spider's web on a spider's web on a spider's web. Nothing is clear and the explanations are given vaguely and lamely. There is more humour that doesn't work again in the end.

Will Smith is lazy as the main lead and Margot Robbie is functional as his love interest / sidekick. The side characters are all equally functional and forgettable. Overall, Focus is a terrible con movie which cons the audience with it's good trailer and impressive cast, which can't save this convoluted mess from it's filler filled plot.

Return to Sender (2015):

A nurse living in small town goes on a blind date with a man who is not the person he says he is.

Director: Fouad Mikati
Writers: Patricia Beauchamp, Joe Gossett
Stars: Rosamund Pike, Shiloh Fernandez, Nick Nolte

Movie Reviews:

Miranda (Rosamund Pike) is a nurse who's got it all it seems -- her own nice house, a loving supportive Dad (Nick Nolte), a stable career about to go the next level. One day, a lecherous stranger William (Shiloh Fernandez) gains access into her house and rapes her. As her neat little world comes crumbling down around her, Miranda embarks on a novel form of "therapy", in the hope of recovering from the brutal trauma she suffered.

A rapist is not only a sexual assaulter, but also the ultimate bully and power-tripper. A rape victim is violated not only sexually and physically, but also psychologically, mentally and even spiritually. What may be a few minutes of torture will haunt a victim for a lifetime.

Powerfully rich in dramatic pain and torment, rape and its aftermath had been the topic of thousands of films and TV shows. Akira Kurosawa's "Rashomon" (1950) and Ingmar Bergman's "The Virgin Spring" (1960) are both Oscar-winning classics of World Cinema. "Johnny Belinda" (1948) and"The Accused" (1988) have won Best Actress Oscars for Jane Wyman and Jodie Foster respectively. But no, before you expect too much, this film definitely does not have Oscars in its future.

Lead star Rosamund Pike shot "Return to Sender" BEFORE her Oscar- nominated turn in "Gone Girl". There is a lot of her "Gone Girl" performance here as well -- the subtle mysterious boiling under her cool-as-ice exterior. The strange script makes her do a lot of illogically unexpected, supposedly therapeutic activities, and Pike does them with her game face straight on. Seeing her make these puzzling decisions, we are as frustrated as her father Mitchell was in the film.

Shiloh Fernandez was clearly up to no good the moment we see him on screen. He has got a raw roguish look about him that makes him work as this vile character. Nick Nolte is now all grandfatherly and Santa Claus-like with his white beard and body heft, playing MIranda's father Mitchell. This is so unlike how I last remember him during his prime in the 1990s in film like "Cape Fear" or "The Prince of Tides."

Watching "Return to Sender" felt like watching three different short films which were just tenuously connected to each other. The final act was so predictable yet still so maddening because it never really showed us clearly what happened. We will be expected to interpret the scene in our own way. I am sure those who have invested time to follow the movie to this point may not exactly relish this disappointing ending.
